TRIVALENT Blue Passivation for Alkaline and Acid Zinc Plating process

                TRIPASS BL 100

Cr3 Blue Passivation for                                   Alkaline and Acid Zinc
                      Plating process

Introduction:
TRIPASS BL100 is a single component liquid Trivalent Blue passivation for Zinc plating
process. It is completely free from Hexavalent Chrome.
TRIPASS BL 100 provide a thin film passivate layer on both Alkaline and Chloride Zinc
deposits. Excellent decorative effect.
TRIPASS BL 100 is easy to operate and control and highly suitable for both Rack and Barrel
Automatic and manual plating process.
TRIPASS BL 100 film can be further enhanced with the application of the post applied Sealer
or Topcoats. Which improve functional properties such as Corrosion resistance and
Coefficient of Friction.

Features:
Completely hexavalent chrome free.
Excellent receptivity on alkaline and chloride zinc electroplating deposits.
Specially formulated for rack and barrel applications.
Produces films with an attractive BLUE finish.
Good corrosion resistance with / without Topcoat.
Easy waste water treatment.

Make Up of TRIPASS BL 100 :
Make up quantity for 100 Ltr. Bath
Particulars
Quantity
D M Water
94 Ltr.
TRIPASS BL 100
6 Ltr.
Make -Up Procedure:
Fill up the passivation bath 2/3rd with D M water.
With continuous agitation add required amount of the TRIPASS BL 100.
Maintain the bath operating level through remaining D M Water.
Check the pH value, In case not in within the range maintain with 50% v/v diluted Nitric
Acid or Sodium Hydroxide (10% Solution)
❖ For makeup and maintenance of the passivation no circulation water from ion exchangers
should be used since the water may contain surfactants or other impurities
The passivation bath is ready for the production.
Replenishment:
Consumption of ISOPASS TB 100 for 100 m2
Product Name
TRIPASS BL 100
Quantity
1.0 to 1.5 Ltr.
The above consumption is an estimate based upon film formation and drag-out. Actual
replenishment will depend upon rack vs barrel and components geometry, etc.
❖ An alternative approach to replenishing the bath chemistry is to analyze for the Cr3+
Concentration by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) or by Titration. Contact the
Galvanotech Technical Service representative.
Check the concentration of the passivation bath solution in each shift by titration.

Impurity limits:
Fe 150 PPM, Zinc - 12 GM/LTR. Copper - 5 PPM, Lead - 5 PPM
Renewal of the passivation bath solution: As per the experience the bath renewal should be
after about 500 dm2 /ltr operation.
Equipment:
❖ Tank: PVC, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, or Rubber lined steel tanks are suitable for use
with ISOPASS TB 100 solutions.
❖ Heating: A heater is necessary to maintain the temperature during winter time. Ceramic
bath heater, spirals or heating elements made of Teflon, PVDF or plastic coated steel can be
used. It is not necessarily required to work with an automatic temperature control.
❖ Agitation: The light uniform air agitation required for the rack application for a constant
colour and optimum brightness. The agitation coil should be acid resistance.
Temperature:
❖ Maintain the temperature within the range as specified in the table. Below 20⁰C the
passivation slow reactive and irregular finish, Creating colorless surface that becomes matt
and Hazy.
❖ Temperature to be control within the range to avoid variation in the passivation layer and
aesthetic finish.
PH Value:
❖ Maintain the pH Value within the range as specified in the table. Low pH will increase the
reactivity of the passivation and strip out the zinc. Higher pH slow down reactivity and will
resulted the irregular finish.
❖ pH correction must be made with: To decrease the pH value use 50% diluted Nitric Acid
(HNO3 LR). To increase the pH value use Sodium Hydroxide (10% w/v solution)
❖ Frequently check the pH value at least within 2 – 3 working hrs.
Dipping Time:
❖ The dipping time includes the duration of travel time from passivation bath to first rinse. It
is due to the reaction of the passivation solution continue on the plated surface before
dipped in to the rinse.
❖ At the time of freshly make up the passivation bath solution. Decrease the dipping time 5
to 10 second and gradually increase the time.

Process Sequence:
1. Zinc Plating (Alkaline / Chloride)
2. D M Water Rinse
3. Activation (0.5% - 1% HNO3)
4. D M Water Rinse
5. TRIPASS BL 100
6. D M Water Rinse
7. Hot D M Water Rinse
8. Air Dry Oven
9. Dry (70 - 80⁰C)
Waste Disposal:
The preparation, maintenance, and disposal of TRIPASS BL100 solutions require the handling
of concentrated trivalent chrome containing chemicals. Additionally, concentrated alkali
and/or acid may be required for pH adjustment purposes. Avoid contact with the skin and
eyes. Wear protective clothing and safety gear. In the event of any contact, flush affected area
with a large volume of cold water and contact a physician, if necessary.
Handling and First Aid:
❖ TRIPASS BL 100 is acidic in nature, which is corrosive to skin and eyes. To avoid skin and eye
contact. it is essential to wear goggles, gloves and protective clothing.
❖ After contact with skin, take off immediately all contaminated clothing, and wash immediately
with plenty of water. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water. In case
of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. If
swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show container or label.
Storage:
ISOPASS TB 100 is an acidic solution that does not require any special storage considerations.
but proper inventory rotation is still recommended. TRIPASS BL 100 is not combustible.
Shelf Life:
The shelf life of the product is two year from the date of manufacturing.
